Thursday, the 15th of August, witnessed the first ‘Chailey Games’ introduced by the Chailey Heritage Foundation. The games included new age kurling, table cricket, boccia, boxing and weightlifting. More than 40 individuals took part in this competition.
The Chailey Heritage Foundation is renowned for its extensive work with children that have various complex disabilities. The charity is also involved in providing a variety of residential and community services for the age group of young adults that includes Life Skills Centre.
Dan Burnett, the fitness manager, said, “We see how important exercise is to everyone when they access the Life Skills Centre; the progress they make is fantastic, building confidence and social skills as well as improving the more obvious things like strength and coordination. We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to compete, we see it in the gym with our marathon and ultra-marathon challenges, but the Chailey Games allowed them to directly compete with one another in front of a crowd and they absolutely loved it.”
The spectators, as well as competitors, were joined by Lizzie Williams, a Paralympian From Sussex who not only held a session for questions and answers but also presented the medals during the closing ceremony.
